#HBAlPorto Meetup

Way back on August 30th (I know, I'm so slow at getting posts up!) I attended the #HBAlPorto event at Al Porto in Hull. I've become a little jaded with the "blog scene" of Leeds lately, it seems very competitive, and as I don't have the time or the sanity to blog full time alongside working full time, I've decided to take a bit of a back seat from it all. So when I saw the tweets about the Hull bloggers event organised by the lovely JennyKat and Alex I decided to go along and meet some different bloggers.

Al Porto is an Italian restaurant based at Hull Marina, up a lot of stairs which was useful for working off all the yummy food that they provided us with. Throughout the entire event there were plates of food weaving around us; unlike my usual self, I spent more time talking than eating meaning I didn't get to eat as much as I wanted to! The particular highlights for me were the burgers in a Yorkshire pudding and the desserts. I'll definitely be suggesting Al Porto for any future Hull based eating.

As well as delicious food and lovely bloggers to talk to, there were three brands with stands and samples to talk to us about their products. First up is every blogger's favourite, Lush. Three fabulous ladies were giving out hand massages and telling us all about some of their new summer products.

The things which looked like lollipops intrigued me and when I asked what they were I was informed that they were hot oil treatments for the hair. You mix the lollipop with hot water and it becomes a really thick paste which you smother your hair in and leave for about 20 minutes. When you wash it out it's supposed to have wonderous effects. I didn't get one of these to try but the fact they have one specifically for curly hair got me interested.

I'd never heard of Viridian before the event, but it turns out that they are an ethical vitamin company. Kel and I tried some of their products, including liquid iron, and we can safely confirm that they "don't taste horrible". If I had to take supplements regularly I would definitely consider Viridian as their products seem quite natural and not too disgusting, which is always a bonus in vitamins!

The final company who were there to talk to us was Weleda an ethical beauty company which have been around since the 1920s. They had a lovely range of nice smelling products and I received some in a goody bag to take away with me to try out. I'll report back with a verdict soon.

After a few hours of chatting, eating and learning more about the brands who were at the event it was time for the raffle. There were so many prizes up for grabs, I think we all went a little mad with buying tickets, however we did manage to raise £227 for the Eve Appeal which is a women's cancer charity. I was lucky enough to win a Sensationail starter kit, which got me very excited. I've been wanting to try a gel nail kit for a long time as I love painting my nails, but hate it when they chip. As my life has been pretty mental since the meetup I've not had chance to try it out yet, but when I do I promise to let you all know how it goes.

As if all of the food and the prizes weren't enough, the lovely ladies had filled 3 huge goodie bags for us to take home with us. Seriously, I had never seen so much stuff in all my life. I was so laden down by the end of collecting all the goodies I had to waddle my way back to my car, not walk! As this post is already threatening to be really long I'll save my goodie bag post for another time.

Thank you so much to the ladies for organising such a fantastic meetup, I really enjoyed myself and can't wait for more #HullBloggers meets!
