The Curious Tea Room - Oswestry

My Little Ponies

A couple of Saturdays ago, myself and Rich found ourselves in Oswestry for the day in order to meet a wedding photographer we were interested in. As we had woken up rather early to road trip there from Leeds, it was decided that we deserved to go out for lunch after the meeting. As always when I am craving something nice in a new place, I got on Tripadvisor and The Curious Tea Room caught my eye, and it being located directly opposite where we parked our car helped! Unfortunately they don't have a website, but they do have a Facebook if you want to take a look at the events they host there.

Curious Tea Room Oswestry Cakes

As we walked into the tea room, the first thing that caught my eye was the display of cakes - naturally! Don't they look mouthwatering? They are all reasonably priced and look home made, and I love the stands they are on, almost like being at Grandma's house for tea.

Curious Tea Room Oswestry Vintage Record Player

As we wandered past the handmade things for sale at the front of the shop, we passed this amazing vintage record player, playing old records - or black spinny things as my sister used to call them - as the background music to the tea rooms.

We found ourselves a table near the back of the tea rooms, and busied ourselves with the menu, trying to decide what to order. I went for the salted caramel milkshake, and I still dream of it now it was that good. When Rich asked to try a bit I seriously debated whether I could let any of it go. I did, but I did tell him how lucky he was.

In true bad blogger style, I guzzled my food and drink down before I took any pictures of it, but I promise you they were good sized portions of home cooked grub. After finishing our food I began to become intrigued with the items on the shelves behind us, a huge collection of vintage memorabilia, mostly from the 50s but also from other decades.

The Curious Tea Room Oswestry Ration Book

The first things which caught my eye were these ration books. I love all things world war, so getting to have a (gentle) flick through these ration books was fascinating for me, they were partially used, and seeing the things which had been used the most, such as soap was an interesting insight into W Edge's life.

I really enjoyed our little day out in Oswestry, and not just because we actually booked our wedding photographer, who is amazing and will produce amazing blog worthy pictures of our wedding day! If you are near the area, I highly recommend a visit to the Curious Tea Room, and after finding out on Facebook that they do acoustic nights there, I wish we lived closer so we could go more often.

There's a picture of the outside of it, so you know what it looks like. It's near to M&S and Argos, opposite the big car park. I love tea rooms, has anyone got any recommendations of ones in Leeds or York for me to get my fix of cake a bit closer to home?

  1. I can't believe I've never been here. I haven't been to Os in a long while, though, which is silly considering it's so near!

I have a good recommendation for York - "Chloe's of York" - I mentioned it in a blog post here - http://www.newgirlintoon.co.uk/2014/05/our-anniversary-in-york.html ... the cakes are AMAZING!
